I recently purchased a Samsung 990 Pro NVME SSD and am only getting about half of the advertised speed. I cannot seem to find anything that says what generation the M.2 Slot is on my Edoras Motherboard. If its a gen 3 slot then these speeds make sense. However, if it's a gen 4 slot then I will have some additional troubleshooting at hand. Before I dive down an unsolveable rabbit hole I would like to confirm the generation of the M.2 slot. Please tell me where I can find this information or provide it to me! Thanks in advance.

I suspect the slot is a gen 3 because the H370 chip set is PCI Express version is a 3.0.
However, I am only assuming those items about the M.2 slot.

Okay, thank you. I know you're only assuming but It certainly makes sense considering the speeds I'm getting cap right about where Gen 3 would. I guess I was just hoping it was something else so I could benefit from the substantial speed difference instead of just a good deal on 2TB of storage.

I would expect a newer system is needed as that motherboard is using an Intel 8th generation CPU.
Here is a page that discusses the M.2 bus speeds and the generation of chipsets, if interested.

To get full PCIe 4 supports from Intel’s 11th generation of processors, you will need a motherboard with the Z590 or B560 chipset. On the other hand, you will need a motherboard with the X570 chipset for full PCIe 4 supports if you are going with AMD processors.
