I want to replace my gpu (ATI Radeon 3000) on my HP Pavilion p6523 without replacing the power supply unit. What is the best gpu for the money that is compatible with my computer?

I am adding a 400 watt power supply (EVGA 400 N1) also to cover the 300 watt required to use that paticular GPU. Do you think this is going to be to much for the HP p6523w to handle or cause problems? Thanks for your help.

@kevbenge Welcome to HP Forums Community!

I'm afraid the PSU with 250w is too low to provide for an upgraded graphics card, there's no way to get a card to work perfectly apart from the one already on your device.

(As an upgrade/custom enthusiast I personally love the idea of upgrading the device as well, However, HP recommends that you go easy on it as the device is equipped with parts that perform at its optimal performance, though the decision to upgrade will be at your own discretion)

I hope that answers your query,

Thanks for your response. I have decided on a 400 watt power supply unit and a GeForce GT 170 2GB GPU. I would hope that both of these items would be compatible with the rest of my system. That is still pretty weak compared to what others have, or so I have been told. I have also heard others have had problems using Windows 10 (which is what I have) with this paticular GPU? I would greatly appreciate any advise if these items are only going to be trouble or you have any trips on doing the upgrade. Thanks again.

@kevbenge The minimum requirement for the graphics card of your preference is 300W as per their website: Click here to verify and as you know, currently you have a 250W PSU.

That said, we don't recommend upgrading the device and hence I don't have any recommendation as of now, I would personally suggest you check with a local tech for an advise as you could connect a temporary GPU to your device and check if its working before you purchase anything as such.

@kevbenge It should be just fine, although as suggested previously, please check with a local tech before you make any purchases to be on a safe side.

Let me know if you need anything else, and if you feel like I've helped you, mark my post as the solution.

Have a good day.
