Hi, the Model No. is CQ5700y.
1. I have been think and the files on the current hard drive are not that important, I did a reset back to original last year when this same thing happened so I backed up most of what I put on there after that.
2. I know I can get a referbished tower with a hard drive and windows 10 loaded for about 125.00 but then what kind of problems will occur then? At least I know what is going on with this one. If I can get all that you suggest and install it myself with you guys help then I will feel better. I know not which to buy that will be good for what I need. Basically I use the Internet and I store pictures and do research and save bookmarks. I would like to have an Office suite so I could write documents but I can do that on Adobe if need be.
3. I can call these people and get the Win 7 but I thought Microsoft was making people pay for Win 10 now.

I believe you can be guided along. WIN 10 is now free again. Get WIN 7 SP1 installed and you can upgrade to WIN 10 free. Here is the link. You can in-place upgrade or download the file via the laptop and use that file on the desktop. You can get MS Office Pro 2019 (legal issue) from this link. (I use them). There are cheaper MS Office Pro 2019 downloads, but I have no experience with them. BTW, MS Office Pro included all the modules.

Hi, I figured out why the Lazesoft went to save file instead of to the download button, it is set up for all but Windows XP which is what the laptop I am using is. I know, get rid of the old equipment huh! 🙂 We use what we have and that is what we have. I think it is a sign to just start over and so the first hing I need to do is the upgrade cost is RAM ($57), WIN 7 ($27) new hard drive ($31-$60) depends on GB size and quality. Correct?

Good Morning, forgot to say that before....well I tried to dl Win 10 and a message came up saying the machine I am on was not good enough, this laptop is Windows XP and there are a lot of web sites that will not update on it. Is there any chance to upgrade this laptop so I can download the things I need?
Thanks!

You should be on this part of the link to create the WIN 10 file on a USB flash drive. Using the tool to create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) to install Windows 1...
If XP is preventing the process, skip it for now
In small steps here we go.
1) You need to get the 500GB hard drive and the WIN 7 SP1
2) swap out the hard drive, and install the WIN7 SP1. It will auto-install, disk by disk.
Only have Computer, monitor, keyboard/mouse and ethernet (internet) wired connection hooked-up. After it installs, you need to verify that it is activated. (Look at Method #3). That is why you need the internet connection. MS has a automated helpline IF you need to activate it manually. It is important that the unit be activated. Here are the steps to activate.
That is the minimum cost. When it is functional, then you can proceed with:
1) New RAM/Memory
2) Install WIN 10 upgrade direct to your unit.
I know this is very tedious, but endeavor to persevere! (Quote from The Outlaw Josey Wales).
