I would wait and remove your GTX 1080 from your desktop until your GPU can be properly powered through your synced secondary power supply using the ATX 24-pin to SATA power adapter method as outlined.

Sure, use an ATX 24-pin to Molex 4-pin adapter if that has your preference.
Here's the requested SATA wiring -same principle for a Molex connection:
