I have a brand new HP X500 mouse. The scroll wheel consistently squeaks. It can't be dirty yet. What should I use to lubricate it? I have powdered graphite, food grade silicone, Fluid Film (recommended by Medeco), WD-40, and 3-in-1 oil?

none of your listed products are suitable (and some are horrible like graphite and 3in1 oil) fluid flim is for METAL not plastic

Polycarbonate and clear polystyrene plastic are among the few surfaces on which to avoid using a petroleum-based product like WD-40.

and since you say you just bought the item, it's under warranty return it for another

Any sort of return is going to cost me postage.

One of the lubes I listed was silicone. Silicone is one of the recommended at the link you provided.

trying to take apart the mouse can cause damage to it

the scroll wheel is not plastic but constructed of metal and nylon

a can of wd40 is about the same as postage for returning the mouse

i personally find your reason for not returning it a poor reason, however it's your property so do with it as you wish

I already have WD-40, and all the other lubricates that I suggested. Spending almost $9.95 to ship an item that cost $9.95 doesn't make sense. If I damage it, I will simply buy another, of a different brand. The Amazon brand is only $6.82. I should have bought it in the first place. My prior mouse was an HP, but it died. I should have realized not to buy another HP.
