What type of SSD does HP 590-p0066 support?

I recently purchased an HP 590-p0066 that utilizes the Lincs motherboard.  I've searched the forums and support documentation trying to determine if the M.2 slot supports NVMe or SATA.  I have found conflicting information.  For example, Crucial's web site indicates that only SATA M.2 drives are compatible.

I would greatly appreciate help with the following 2 questions:

1. What type of SSD does the M.2 slot support?   SATA or NVMe (or both)?

2. What is the maximum size SSD that the BIOS supports in this M.2 slot?  500GB?  1TB?

the lincs motherboard has a onboard M.2 nvme slot that uses a 2280 form factor SSD

however for your model hp elected not to provide a M.2 SSD option. even though the board is capable of using the M.2 slot,... it may be due to HP wanting to meet a low price point

HP does however does offer a M.2 SSD in the links motherboard when offering  diffrent series/model which also uses the lincs board

It sounds like you are quite confident that the M.2 slot supports NVMe (not SATA).  I can find nothing in any of HP's documentation that specifies whether the slot is NVMe or SATA.  All I've found was the same specification sheet that you referenced.  That sheet only states "One M.2 socket 3, 2280 type for SSD".

Interestingly, I checked with Crucial (both their web site and their support people) and they claim that I need to order a M.2 SATA SSD from them (2280 form factor), and they specifically mention that the 590-p0066 M.2 slot only supports SATA.

I tried to view inside the slot, and it looks to be an M-Key slot (which is why I posted the question).

I really wish that HP would provide more detailed specification descriptions for their various MB configurations.

iffirst as you noted the M.2 is "M" keyed which is pcie x4 lanes not a "B" key x2

you would be hard pressed to find a SATA based SSD model short of samsung which is the only vender i know of still offering a SATA based performance 4x SSD

next if you look at the motherboard chipset used on the HP lincs  board it's a h370 which is a recent low/midrange chipset

So this issue is settled?  Then the One M.2 socket 3, 2280 type for SSD listed in the not so good specs for the Pavilion 590-p0066 Desktop PC, should also include that the M.2 is "M" keyed which is pcie x4 lanes, and has nvme support. Right?

And that I can get a SSD with those specs and expected it to work in that M.2 socket 3?

There is so much contradiction concerning something that should be fairly simple. Should have been in the Specs!

I am now concerned that I made the right decision going with this HP.

It definitely supports NVMe (PCIe 4x).  I received my HP EX900 SDD NVMe today and installed it.  I'm presently in the process of install a new/clean copy of Windows 10 on the new SDD.  Had one issue with it being formatted as MBR instead of GPT, but I was able to fix that using diskpart OS utility.
