Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi guys. I was hoping you could tell me what video cards might fit on my HP 1998 motherboard.

I checked the BIOS and it is UEFI, not Legacy so a newer card would work.

I'm just worried because the only PCI slot is so close to the case.

I would hate to buy a card and not have it fit.

Please help.

@derekmeier,

Welcome to our HP community forum!

Your HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF can be fitted with just about any graphics card, including the mighty RTX 3090 Ti as seen here.  You'll have to make some measurements to make sure whatever GPU you have in mind would physically (LxWxH) fit inside your case.  Especially the length and height ('high profile'), though some Users remove the SFF's top panel and/or apply other mods in order to fit a large graphics card.  Also, you'll need to provide sufficient power (wattage) in order to power a high(er)-end graphics card.

Speaking of power supplies, here is a relevant discussion I had with a User a year ago: Can I put a new graphic card in my pc with a HP 1998 motherb... - HP Support Community - 8839906.

You have two graphics card PCIe slot options: the black x16 PCIe and the white x16 PCIe slot, wired to x4 speed.  I would recommend using the black x16 PCIe slot.

Oh my god NonSequitur777. Thank you so much.

I now know 10 X more to resolve the question posed, and I am very computer literate.

I have built a number of my computers from parts, and now I feel confident I can tackle this.

I had a lot of trouble finding specific information that could help me. Thank you HP Support community.

I looked at a picture of my motherboard again and realized I hadn't even noticed the black x16 PCIe slot.

I must have been looking for a white slot, and I can't believe I missed that.

Now I can get a powerful graphics card (and power supply to match).

I also have a couple 4 TB HHDs I will attempt to fit in that slim case.

I bought this computer refurbished for $250, and it was OK but now I think it has potential.

I also have 32GB of DD4 waiting to be put in.

By the way, what specs should I be looking at for a power supply that will fit the case?

Thanks again, Derek

@derekmeier,

Well, there are a number of ways to approach the power supply placement.  You can consider (please check dimensions (LxWxH) for fit inside your case) a mini ITX power supply such as this option: Amazon.com: Flex Power Supply 500W Modular PSU ATX Computer Power Supplies Full Voltage 110/220V wit..., or simply park your power supply outside your case, like I did with several of my HP SFF upgrade projects, like so: Solved: Upgrading HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF - HP Support Community - 8545942.
