HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 8917)

When i detect drivers i need to install on HP's website i get this driver update (ABOVE). it also flags this driver update as "critical". so i download the driver. i have 2 ssd's and 1 hdd. i download it to my secondary ssd. when ever i download this driver update to my firecuda 2tb ssd it locks the security of my ssd. making it so that i am no longer able to download things to this ssd and says "you do not have permission to download to this ssd". I can download to my other 2 hard drives (not including the firecuda) BUT I also cannot change the security for any of my hard drives for that matter anymore. i had to delete everying on my firecuda ssd in order to download things to it again. so im trying to figure out how to download this driver update without getting locked out of my ssd. i am also trying to figure out how to change the security of my hard drives. this update is causing a major headache.

Could you please write down the exact message you get? It is a bit confusing the way you write your post. 🙂

Also, you have the option to update BIOS from the BIOS menu itself, if you are connected to the router via LAN cable. At boot, press F10 until you get to the BIOS menu and there you will see the BIOS Update option.

@CuriousGeorge00 --  i am no longer able to download things to this SSD

Windows tries to protect its "system-critical" folders, by not allowing you to write any files into those specific folders.  So, be sure that you are downloading to your "Documents" or "Downloads" folder, where you do have permission to write files.

i have 3 drives. when i downloaded the update on one of my drives it locked it into "everyone" security mode instead of staying under "administrator" where i have full control of the drive. i figured it out. But it was saying, "you do not have permission to use this drive". or "you do not have permission to download to this drive". or something to that effect. thanks anyways. but i figured it out regardless. BUT i still cant change the security setting on my 3 drives though. the security setting on my 3 drives is now stuck on "authenticated user". i cant change the security setting on my 3 drives to "administrator". its not an issue as of now but i hope it doesnt become an issue later down the line. I am the administrator on my pc and i am the only person who uses my pc.
