It is also possible that the motherboard picture is not accurate.  I searched on google and sometimes there are more slots present on the board.  You can see in this particular board's picture on HP's spec sheet that there are a couple of PCI-E slots missing, but their solder points are present on the board.  Thanks!

HP has their motherboards made to their specifications.  So, they are not always the same as retail boards.  Also, they use the same boards in different models with different configurations  This is why HP's diagrams may vary considerably.  All of their boards are not necessarily equal depending on the price point of the computer, features are added and subtracted accordingly.
