Envy23-d250ef All-in-one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HI all,

I want to upgrade the RAM on my desktop Envy23 by adding an 8Gb card. Currently, it is equipped with the default memory card Samsung 4GB DDR3 PC3-12800 on one of the two available sockets . The memory upgrade information available on the page corresponding to my model (https://support.hp.com/fr-fr/product/hp-envy-23-d200-touchsmart-all-in-one-desktop-pc-series/5359011...) show the following

  • Dual channel memory architecture
  • Two DDR3 SO-DIMMs (204-pin) sockets
    • PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)
    • PC3-12800 (DDR3-1600)
  • Non-ECC memory only, unbuffered
  • Supports 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB (8 GB only available on systems using Ivy Bridge processors) DDR3 SO-DIMMs
  • Supports up to 16 GB on 64-bit PCs (16 GB only available on systems using Ivy Bridge processors)
  • Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit* PCs
*32-bit PCs cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory.

I am not sure whether I can install in the empty socket a similar card as that already installed (i.e. PC3-12800 (DDR3-1600)), or the information above means that the empty socket can only accept a card of the PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333) type.

Also, I am wondering if a DDR3L would be ok (like: Crucial CT102464BF160B 8Go (DDR3L, 1600 MT/s, PC3L-12800, SODIMM, 204-Pin)

OS is Win10, 64-bit

Any hints?

Hi:

Below is the link to the Crucial, France memory report for your PC.  They offer compatible memory for sale.

https://www.crucial.fr/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/envy-23-d250ef-touchsmart-all-in-one

If you want to add an 8 GB memory module, it appears the one you want is supported in your PC and it is a couple of Euros cheaper on Amazon.

One day I recommend you max it out to 16 GB because with 12 GB, the memory runs in the lower performing single data rate mode as it does when one memory slot is empty.

When you install memory in matching capacities such as  2 x 4 GB or 2 x 8 GB, the memory runs in the higher performing dual data rate mode.

Thanks a lot Paul!

I did check it on the Crucial site actually, before posting - but I was not on the French page, so obviously there was no "d250ef"  in their list.

Cheers
