Will a HP Pro 3400mt with i3 2120 work with a 2700k?
11-18-2019 03:24 AM - edited 11-18-2019 03:27 AM
So my dad has this old HP pro that is a bit underpowered and my question is will the board with the i3 2120 accept a 2700k? I'm not going to overclock it or anything but I found a good offer on a used one. On a consumer board I would be certain but I would really like someone to confirm that the HP pro 3400 mt BIOS would accept another cpu, especially one that doesn't come with any of the models.
(To clarify, what are the chances of it working maybe)
Thanks in advance.

Hi:
I doubt it will.
There is only one BIOS file, and the release notes do not give any indication of support for newer processors.
Why not just get the best supported processor...the i7-2600...

If you want to experiment, you may want to try one of the Intel 3rd gen core processors the H61 chipset supports.
This list doesn't even show the 2700K would work in a motherboard with the H61 chipset.

Thanks for such a great answer!
Only reason I got the 2700k is that I found a great offer on one but I didn't think I wouldn't even be officially supported by the chipset itself.
Sadly I can't find any 2600 but I got a intel 3rd gen cpu but I thought that would be even further off the mark.
Thanks for the quick and simple answer.
🙂
