I have an HP SLIMLINE 290-P0046. It is rather slow and boots up VERY slowly, so I wanted to upgrade the hard drive. I have a Kingston SSD I no longer use (from another machine) and can't seem to find out if it is compatible or not. The Kingston SSD is model SV300S37A/240G.
Also, whether I use this old Kinsgton SSD or need to buy a new one, how do I get the OS on to the new drive so that I can boot up from this new, faster hard drive?
I am running Windows 10 Home, with an x64-based PC (per System Information).
Any help is appreciated.

Hi:
If you want to replace the 3.5" mechanical hard drive with the 2.5" Kingston SSD, it should work fine, but you will need a 3.5" to 2.5" hard drive adapter to properly mount the smaller SSD where the 3.5" drive is now.
Your PC's motherboard also has a M.2 slot that supports the much faster type NVMe SSD's, so you may want to look into that option instead and use your 1 TB hard drive for storage only.

A 250 GB Samsung 980 M.2 NVMe SSD or 250 GB Western Digital Blue SN570 NVMe SSD would not be very expensive.
