HP Z600
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I have an old Z600 laying around and want to buy a RX 480 for it. I can get the Red Devil model locally for super cheap ($75) but I'm not sure it will fit as its almost 5" wide.( not including the needed PCI Power connector adding to the total width) What do you think, should I buy or hold out to find one of the smaller models?

@ItsPotter , welcome to the forum.

If the information that I have found on your workstation is correct, it was released in 2010.  Therefore, I don't believe that the RX 480 will work.  The newer cards require UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard/Legacy BIOS.  HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012.  The BIOS can't be upgrade to UEFI.  The last cards not to require UEFI were the GTX 660/670 series.

The best way to know if a card will fit is, measure from the Back I/O ports to the front of the case.  Then, compare those measurements to the ones for the card.

The MSI R480, 8GB fits into pci e, but due to its size, does not allow the HP Z600 side panel to close.

I fitted it using a 2 sata to 8 pin adapter, meaning that it draws 75 ( Watts from pci e) +2x45 Watts (from sata port) which totals 160 Watts, and works very well under Microsoft Windows 10 Pro.
