HP Z2 G8 Tower Workstation Desktop PC (287S5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi. Recently upgraded my HP Z2 Tower G8 CPU to an i9-11900K. I am getting the post error in the bios for improper cooling, so I plan to upgrade the CPU cooler to the one made for a 125W TDP CPU. Will the Z2G5 125W TDP cooler be compatible with my workstation?

@Dogemacht,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

My apologies: I just saw your question, or else I would have responded to it much earlier!

To cover our basics, what "post error" are you referring to -is it one of these errors:

In any regards, please check your motherboard that all three fan-power connectors are in use -meaning, are connected to/actually powering a cooling fan -and are not defective:

Link: Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com).

According to the manual, there are three different CPU heatsink modules available, one for 65-watt models, another for 80-watt models, and the best one for 80-watt models.

The following link provides the part number for the 125-watt heatsink module: HP Z2 G8 TOWER WORKSTATION DESKTOP PC (287S5AV) - 2N2E7EA Replacement Parts | EMPR (emprgroup.com.au..., with either p/n: M10277-001 "SPS-Cooler CPU 125W Z2G5 TWR" or p/n: M47432-003 "CPU INT i9-11900K 8C 3.50G 125W" (could not find any additional information on the latter).

Interestingly, the link you provided with p/n: L97053-001 "HP HEATSINK COOLER 125W FOR Z2 G5 TOWER" appears to me to be identical to p/n: M10277-001:

In other words: you are correct, this CPU heatsink/cooling fan combo should provide your HP Z2 G8 Tower Workstation with the best possible cooling option!

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
