Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi. I removed the ssd 2.5' and installed the nvme in. The standard ssd which came with the micro tower was where the original OS reside. I fitted everything back up and made an attempt to install windows10 via usb. But the nvme is not seen in custom installation/Windowssetup. Short of spending extra cash on standard ssd, is there anything i could do in bios? any short fix?

What model NVME did you obtain?  Should be of type ssd like the following that I found in this manual.

BeemerBiker_0-1654400026046.png

It needs to be 512 bytes per sector.  Make sure it is not 4096

hi @PGriffin   @BeemerBiker

sorry @BeemerBiker , this problem is recurring with windows 10 and 11, if that's what it's all about

No drives can be found during Windows 11 or Windows 10 installation (Intel 11th Generation processor...

it is indicated except error indicated to extract the file at a time, except that it is not possible directly
use in this case https://www.7-zip.fr/

if that hasn't changed

Hi @BeemerBiker @Prométhée

x__x Okey. So it's possible, it's both the reasons you explain.

Here's the which currently resides in the PC.

Kingston A400 SSD Internal Solid State Drive M.2 2280 SATA Rev 3.0, 120GB - SA400M8/120G

And here's the one which'll replace it the next day.

Integral 128GB SSD NVME M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3x4 R-1800MB/s W-600MB/s TLC M1 Solid State Drive

So I've ordered a brand new one which'll be compatible??? Then I'll use the OEM CD (used in a previous laptop installation)to install Windows 10. It's been a couple years since my last W10 installation and I do not remember much of it from that time. I will repeat, it's an OEM CD. Will it ask me to imput a product key? Or should I create a W10 CD from a media creation tool instead? Ta.

I believe this memory will work.  One of the reviews states that it is 512bytes per sector emulation which is needed to boot.

A 3 star review shows performance

a number of  1 star reviews shows failures after a few months.  My guess is heating due to no NVME cooler or inadequate air flow.  I assume you are getting  something bigger than 128mb, not just a replacement.

I am still confused.  Which memory did not work?    The one currently in or the next day one?

You can install from your OEM CD but I recommend cloning but did not see any cloning software offered.  Some vendors offer an acronis cloning tool.  HP has the following recommendations for cloning

https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/tech-takes/how-to-clone-hard-drive-windows-10

You should obtain an external enclosure (usb) to do the clone and then swap out the NVME after the clone operation

[edit] Did that Kingston come with the HP?   Are you adding an M.2 to a system that did not have one to start with?

@BeemerBiker

Hey. Thanks for the quick reply. I only wished I was around to catch you then. I am adding an M.2 to a system which didn't have one in the beginning. The original W11 OS was on a 2.5 inch internal SSD drive. Why? Is it bad I decided on a M.2? The reason for why I decided on an M.2 is I was planning on adding a 4TB CMR drive for added storage, if all goes well.

The Kingston is the one I put in yesterday and failed to be seen by the installation suit. Whilst the Integral is moments from being shipped from now. So it's not like I can cancel now. I'm aware of cloning, but I'd like to start fresh.

Have you tried the solution indicated by HP in this case of problem?
this can happen even with another processor

and with an installation cd not intended for also

if that was the problem changing ssd m2 may be the same

I misunderstood the problem I thought you had a working NVME and was upgrading to a bigger one which did not work..
Following the instructions giving by @Prométhée to install win11 so that the MVME gets recognized.

older systems did not support booting from NVME, (they can use nvme as non boot storage)

the HP 290 G1 SFF however is a newer system that does support boot from nvme

the motherboard has two m.2 slots, but one is ONLY for a wireless card (no SSD)

the other M.2 slot is for SSD'S  2242/2280

do you have the ?nvme ssd in the correct M.2 slot? it's the one closest to the white and blue sata connectors

last, when you say custom install what do you mean are you using a image that has been changed to have non stock settings?

so, @DGroves  there I did not even think of that, because if I look in my computer, it is not I think possible to be mistaken ..
They are not the same at all , one is much longer than the other and not the same keys
