Hi @Jmt1990,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the HP Envy 700-214 PC Desktop might not have a wireless module installed, which means it cannot connect to Wi-Fi networks out of the box. Here's what you can do to resolve this issue:

1. Confirm Absence of Wireless Module

  • Check Device Manager: Open Device Manager and look for a network adapter under the "Network adapters" section. If you don't see a wireless adapter listed, then it's likely not installed.

2. Install a Wireless Module

If the wireless module is indeed missing, you have two main options:

Option 1: USB Wi-Fi Adapter

  • Ease of Use: This is the simplest solution. Just plug the USB Wi-Fi adapter into an available USB port, install the necessary drivers (if not automatically installed), and you'll be able to connect to Wi-Fi networks.
  • Recommended Products: TP-Link, Netgear, and Linksys make reliable USB Wi-Fi adapters.

Option 2: Internal Wi-Fi Card

  • Performance: Installing an internal Wi-Fi card can offer better performance compared to USB adapters.
  • Steps to Install:
    1. Purchase a Compatible Card: Ensure you buy a card compatible with your PC's motherboard. Look for PCIe Wi-Fi cards.
    2. Open the Case: Power down the computer, unplug it, and open the side panel of the case.
    3. Locate PCIe Slot: Identify an available PCIe slot on the motherboard.
    4. Install the Card: Insert the Wi-Fi card into the PCIe slot and secure it with a screw.
    5. Connect Antennas: Attach the external antennas to the card (if provided).
    6. Close the Case and Power Up: Replace the side panel, plug in the computer, and power it on.
    7. Install Drivers: Install the drivers provided with the Wi-Fi card, or download the latest drivers from the manufacturer’s website.

3. Verify Installation

  • Check Device Manager Again: After installation, the new wireless adapter should appear in Device Manager under "Network adapters."
  • Connect to Wi-Fi: Use the network settings in Windows to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.

I hope this helps.

Thanks! I'll try that. The message only shows up after my PC won't boot and I run a diagnostic.
