Hi all. I have had this PC for a while. I am a student who wants to upgrade it. Ideally, I just need a compatible 550W PSU(not the hp psu) so I can buy an 8GB GPU. This GPU can be Nvidia or AMD. I just want to know if I can find a PSU that will fit in my case and if there are any GPU recommendations.

Hi @Clipsguy
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Great question—and it’s awesome that you’re ready to give your HP Pavilion TP01-2002ni a performance boost! 🎮💪 Let’s break down your upgrade path with compatible options and tips.
Upgrading your HP Pavilion Desktop with a new power supply unit (PSU) and graphics card (GPU) requires consideration of compatibility both in terms of power requirements and physical dimensions. Here are some guidelines to help you:
PSU Upgrade
Compatibility and Size:
- HP Pavilion desktops generally use standard ATX PSUs, but it's important to check the dimensions to ensure it fits in your case.
- Measure the current PSU's dimensions, including length, width, and height, and verify the wattage and connector requirements.
- A 550W PSU is typically standard ATX size, but always confirm the fit.
Connector Availability:
- Ensure the PSU has the necessary connectors, including 24-pin motherboard, 8-pin CPU, and PCIe connectors for GPU.
- Brands like Corsair, EVGA, and Seasonic offer reliable PSUs that are compatible with most systems.
GPU Upgrade
Compatibility:
- Make sure your motherboard and case have enough space to accommodate the new GPU.
- Ensure your PSU has enough PCIe power connectors to support the new GPU.
Cooling and Space Considerations:
- High-performance GPUs can be large and require good airflow. Check the clearance in your case for maximum GPU size supported.
- Verify if immediate adjacent slots are available if needed due to the size of some GPUs.
Recommendations:
- Nvidia Options: Consider the Nvidia RTX 3060 or GTX 1660 Super, which offer solid performance for most applications.
- AMD Options: Consider AMD Radeon RX 6600 or RX 5700 XT for similar performance. They generally have excellent cost-to-performance ratio.
- Both Nvidia and AMD cards will require adequate power connectors from your upgraded PSU.
Additional Considerations
- Check for BIOS updates that may be necessary for compatibility with newer GPUs.
- Cooling: Consider additional case fans or checking the existing case airflow to maintain a suitable operating temperature, especially for high-performance GPUs.
Before making purchases, ensure that all parts are compatible with your HP Pavilion desktop's specifications and fit both physically and functionally.

There are two compatible HP proprietary power supply upgrades available for your PC:
1.) 500-watt PSU with p/n: L05757-800 or 901759-013
2.) 650-watt PSU with p/n: L57253-003 / L36049-003
On the higher end, I would recommend a smaller-sized (dual fan) RTX 5060 or RTX 5060 Ti model (for a 500-watt PSU) or a smaller-sized (dual fan) RTX 5070 such as this model: ASUS DUAL RTX 5070 Specs | TechPowerUp GPU Database for the 650-watt PSU.

Thank you again. However, are there any other brands? I would preferably like to future-proof my build so that when I get a new motherboard and case, I will have a non-proprietary PSU that is perfectly compatible with the new motherboard.
