@SBSapkal, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

To remove write protection from an HP pen drive, you can try the following steps:

Check for a physical switch: Some pen drives have a physical switch to enable or disable write protection. Make sure the switch is in the 'unlocked' position.

Change security settings via Diskpart in Windows:

  • Connect your HP pen drive to the computer.
  • Open Command Prompt by typing cmd in the search bar and selecting 'Run as administrator'.
  • Type diskpart and press Enter.
  • Type list disk and press Enter.
  • Identify your pen drive from the list (e.g., Disk 1). You'll be able to recognize it by its size.
  • Type select disk X (replace X with your disk number) and press Enter.
  • Type attributes disk clear readonly and press Enter.
  • Type exit to close Diskpart, then remove your pen drive and reconnect it.

Edit registry settings (Advanced users):

  • Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies.
  • If you see a WriteProtect entry on the right side, double-click it and set its value to 0.
  • Restart your computer.

Note: Please ensure you have backups of your data before proceeding, as some of these steps may affect data stored on the drive.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Write protection issues can be frustrating, especially when you’re trying to format or transfer files. Sometimes it’s just a matter of checking disk properties or using diskpart to clear the read-only attribute. I was running into a similar headache recently, and while searching around I also came across Gorillabow , which I’ve been using outside of tech stuff to keep my workouts on track.
