I would like to add an optical drive to this system. I need the p/n for the optical drive power and sata cable. Also p/n for the optical drive and bezel

@OLD_CrewCab,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Yes, you can use the HP internal parts (P24512-001 bezel, M52203-001 latch, 932497-001 or M75172-001 drive, N83219-001 SATA cable, P27708-001 power cable), per the HP Z2 Tower G1i Workstation service manual.

But for many users, an external USB optical drive -in my opinion- would be a better path: much easier, less risk of misalignment or compatibility issues, plug-and-play, and reusable across systems -not to speak of it being considerably less expensive to purchase.

Look, unless you really need the optical drive to be internal (for aesthetics or because the front bezel must remain "factory look"), the external route is far more convenient.

Kind Regards,

just keep in mind that if you buy a external usb optical drive from eBay (and many amazon/newegg sellers) based on a lower price there is a very high chance that the optical drive in the unit will be a used repurposed one even though the seller will imply or state that it's a new item when only the case and the usb to sata interface board is new

while i personally have no issues with used parts i do have a issue when sellers do not disclose this fact

this is based on personal experience i've had buying external usb based optical drives

other than the possibility of getting a used optical drive the points NonSequitur raises are good ones to consider
