HP Z2 Tower G9 Workstation Desktop PC IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

I own an HP Z2G9 Tower with a 12700K CPU. I want to upgrade the CPU to an Intel 13th Gen 13900K to increase the performance. I then checked the specifications on the HP official site and found that the Z2G9 is a new release and supports 13th Gen Intel CPUs. So, I bought the 13900K CPU from a computer store and replaced the current 12700K.

However, when I installed the new CPU and powered on the system, I encountered a BIOS POST Error:

"Hardware Configuration Mismatch"

"The current system configuration is not fully compatible to support an Intel 13th Gen Processor..."

Would any experts be able to provide a solution to fix this issue? Thank you very much.

Hi:

If you have the latest BIOS update installed and that didn't resolve the problem, you may want to take a look at this discussion regarding the same issue with the Z9 mini:

HP Z2 mini G9 - upgrade CPU to Raptor Lake, getting PCA not fully compatible warning | ServeTheHome ...

Sounds to me like different components are needed such as heat sinks and whatnot.

The G9 specs also indicate 14th gen core processors should be supported as well:

Sorry that I can't help you with a specific solution, other than to say to anyone else reading this not to try upgrading to a different generation processor.
