Dear forum,
I have a few questions regarding my Z240 sff workstation and RAM speed. I upgraded the RAM to 4x 8gb 3200mhz sticks. I know my processor (Xeon 1225 v5) can only handle 2133mhz but I did some research and found out that this should work properly. I also figured this would be more future proof.
This all worked like it should but today I have upgraded the cpu to a Xeon 1270 V6 processor which can handle up to 2400mhz ram speeds, but I just can't seem to get the ram running at that speed. It keeps on running @ 2133mhz. I tried installing all kinds of firmware and drivers through the HP Support website but nothing seems to work. I also upgraded the bios to the newest 1.90 version.
Is there a way to get my RAM running at 2400mhz? Am I doing something wrong? Or am I better off buying compatible 2400mhz DDR4 ram?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Oane

You probably got the scammy, XMP only types.
Some companies like G.SKILL will manufacture their DDR4-3000 or DDR4-3200 so that it will only run at the stock 2133MHz (non-XMP) speed until you explicitly turn on the XMP setting in the motherboard UEFI setup.
Since your motherboard's UEFI setup does not have the XMP toggle in it, you will not be able to run it at 2400MHz and it will stay at 2133MHz.

The memory is running at 2133 because the Skylake chipset on the motherboard and the Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1225 v5 have memory specifications of DDR4-2133.
Your Z240 sff workstation does not have an enthusiast or gaming motherboard with a BIOS that allows for memory tuning by way of XMP profiles.
