Z620 Server
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi - I have a Z620 server and the old C (boot drive) was faulty - this has been replaced for a SSD which seems to work great. I have two 4TB drives set in Raid 1 currently using the AHCI 6GB/s connectors on the MB port 31 - 0 and 1 - the ssd is on Port 30 AHCI 3GB/s  is this correct and giving me the best performance?

Thanks 😉

In theory the SSD should preform faster on a 6GB/s port but the only 6GB/s ports are occupied by the Raid 1 controller with the other hard drives.  You could disconnect the Raid hard drives and connect the SSD there to test for any preceived speed increase and then decide.  It depends on if you can do without the hard drives on the Raid conroller.

While the SSD is capable of faster performance on the 6GB/s ports, that is where the RAID controller is located.  The SSD can function on the 3GB/s ports and as long as it works to your satisfaction where it is connected, then sure leave it.  Being that there no other 6GB/s ports listed and that server chassis is older, then as long as you are happy with the way it is performing, it is good.  The SSD will definitely be faster than the old drive it replaces.

Hi many thanks for your reply that was very helpful, the only other question I have is although the SSD is much better would i gain much by the 6GB/s port in realality? I have added a faster graphics card and dont want to bottle neck on games etc.

Thanks Simon
