I currently have 1 SSD and 1 standard (SATA) drive on my Z840.
I'm trying to add another SSD, and eventually another standard drive from my old system.
I cannot get either of them to show up in Disk Management.
In the BIOS I enabled all 4 in 'SATA control' but I'm not sure I was in the corrects area.
Thanks for any input.

which controller are you connecting the drive(s) to? the z840 has a normal SATA controller and a LSI based SAS/SATA controller, please read the HP user manual to learn about your z840
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/899901/Hp-Z440-Workstation-Series.html?page=69
Motherboard:
the 2 black connectors are normal SATA (no drivers required)
the 4 grey connectors next to the black are the Intel "SCU" sata connectors, and they require the Intel RSTe driver, this is not the normal consumer rst driver, as the "e" means enterprise
z840 windows 10 RSTe driver 4.7.0.1098 Rev.1

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp96001-96500/sp96420.exe
the 7 white connectors along the edge of the motherboard are the LSI SAS/SATA connectors and these are accessed via the z840 bios, (look for the ctrl-c prompt during boot) or via the "F-10" bios menu prompt
the LSI controller can do JBOD or Raid (JBOD= Just a bunch of disks) and supports both SAS and SATA drives
