Dear all,
I want to transfer my videos from Hi8 tape to my desktop HP Pavillion 500-566nf.
Could I add a Firewire card to my desktop ?
For info, I juste had added a PCI Wifi card and not sure to have another free PCI slot.
Thank you for any suggestion.

Hi @Tiboto ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are trying to transfer videos from Hi8 tapes, adding a FireWire (IEEE 1394) card is a good approach. However, since you've already installed a PCI WiFi card, you'll need to check if there's another available PCI slot on your HP Pavilion 500-566nf to add the FireWire card.
Based on the specifications of the HP Pavilion 500-566nf, here’s what you might want to check and consider:
Available Expansion Slots: The Pavilion 500-566nf has the following expansion slots:
- One PCI Express x16 slot (typically used for graphics cards)
- Three PCI Express x1 slots
Checking for Free Slots: To verify if any slots are available, open the side panel of your desktop (after turning off and unplugging it) and check if there are unused PCI Express x1 slots. Look for empty slots that line up with the expansion covers on the back of the case.
Choosing a Compatible FireWire Card: Make sure to choose a PCI Express x1 FireWire card that fits within the available slots in your system. Most FireWire cards with a PCI Express x1 interface should work fine, and you can find them with a range of FireWire port options (e.g., 400, 800).
Driver Compatibility: Since you're using Windows 11, ensure that the FireWire card you purchase has compatible drivers or support for Windows 11. Many cards work with generic drivers, but double-checking can prevent driver issues.
After installing, connect your Hi8 device to the FireWire port and use compatible video capture software to transfer the videos. Let me know if you have further questions about the setup!

I hope this helps.
