Hi @akridge5,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding upgrading the HP ENVY Desktop PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Recommended Upgrades for Gaming:
Graphics Card:
- This is the most impactful upgrade for gaming performance. Consider upgrading to a more powerful GPU that can handle AAA game requirements, such as NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, RTX 3070, or their AMD Radeon equivalents.
RAM:
- Increasing the RAM can also considerably enhance performance, especially for games that are intensive on memory. Aim for at least 16GB or 32GB of RAM, depending on the current configuration.
Storage:
- Upgrade to an SSD if not already present, or consider adding a larger capacity or faster NVMe SSD. This speeds up load times and provides better overall system responsiveness.
Processor:
- If necessary and feasible, upgrading the processor to a higher-tier model that’s compatible with your PC's motherboard can provide better performance, especially in CPU-bound games.
Power Supply:
- Ensure that your power supply can support new hardware upgrades, especially a more powerful GPU. You may need to upgrade to a higher wattage PSU.
General Compatibility Advice:
- Always check the compatibility of new components with your existing hardware and power supply.
- Be mindful of space and thermal conditions inside the desktop when upgrading, as more powerful components may require more cooling and space.
Steps to Upgrade:
- Research and Purchase components from reputable retailers.
- Consult any available upgrade guides specific to your model, or bring the PC to a professional if unsure about installation.
- Check BIOS and driver updates post-upgrade to ensure optimal performance.
I hope this helps.
