I am looking for a spec where I can find how to connect a new sata hard drive to my PC.

HP OmniDesk AI M03-0000i‏‏ (A9UT9AV)

I have seen several power sockets on the motherboard but couldn't find any details about them.

for example,

1. which is OK for HD power supply. if they are 12V or 5V and how much watt they can carry.
2. what is the order of pins in each socket (if it is standard or not). and if not, what is the HP part number of the appropriate cable to use.

3. is there a standard mount / tray / designated space inside the PC for adding hard drive (of any type / size) besides the one  NVMe that comes with the PC.

** the PC specific model is listed in the message details.

Hi @zvi-h

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you’re planning to add a SATA hard drive to your HP OmniDesk AI M03‑0000i, and the following guidance covers the power connections, pinouts, and mounting options to help you expand storage safely. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Locate SATA Data Ports

  • Your motherboard includes standard SATA III connectors for hard drives.
  • Look for L‑shaped SATA ports on the motherboard.
  • Use a standard SATA data cable to connect the drive to one of these ports.
  • Ensure the cable is firmly seated at both ends.

Identify SATA Power Connectors

  • Standard 5V/12V Rails.
  • Drives must be powered from the PSU, not the motherboard headers.
  • Use the PSU’s 15‑pin SATA power connector.
  • Provides +3.3 V, +5 V, and +12 V rails.
  • Typical HDD/SSD draw is 5–15 W, well within PSU capacity.
  • Do not use small motherboard headers
  • They are for fans or accessories, not drives.

Connect and Boot

  • Once connected, initialize the drive in Windows.
  • Attach SATA data cable to motherboard.
  • Attach SATA power cable from PSU.
  • Power on the PC and press F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Confirm the drive is detected.
  • In Windows, open Disk Management
  • Initialize disk
  • Create new volume.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!
