Why is adding 4gb Ram card to lower slot difficult to slide into and lock it as opposed to the top slot? Is there something else I need to do? Also I know limit is 8gb total for this model, but can I just use the top slot and add 1 -  8GB ram card? Thanks Gabe

Hi @gabebruzzi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I  understand how  it can feel when something as simple as sliding in a RAM card doesn’t go as smoothly as expected.

Single 8GB module: If your system’s maximum supported memory is 8GB, you can generally use one 8GB stick in the top slot instead of two 4GB sticks. However, performance may be slightly better with two sticks because of dual-channel memory, but it will still work fine with a single 8GB module.

Compatibility check: Make sure the RAM you’re installing matches the specifications supported by your model (speed, DDR type, voltage). If it’s not fully compatible, the system may not recognize it properly.

Also Please note : upgrading or replacing hardware components such as RAM may void your HP warranty.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
