Unfortunately for you, HP's "NARRA2" designation applies to several quite-different motherboards.
Some of the motherboards require AM2 CPUs, and some require AM3 CPUs.

> when i downloaded the bios it says for vista not windows 7
That's good. The BIOS-updating program will run under Windows Vista, and it should run under Windows 7.
Much better than the alternative, namely that the BIOS-updating program _must_ run under Windows 7, and that it will not run under Windows Vista.
BIOS is BIOS, whether you update it directly by functionality built-in to the motherboard, or from a DOS command-prompt, or from Windows.
I've seen BIOS updates that are recommended to be installed _before_ upgrading to Windows 7,
but I've never seen BIOS updates that say "do not install this update if you EVER want to upgrade to Windows 7/8/10".

> do i find the model # on the motherboard ?
Yes.
It's that white lettering to the right of those 2 white-coloured stickers.
> it says on here am2 but i didnt know if both would work or only am2
The CPU sockets for the AM2 and the AM3 processors are different -- close, but no cigar.
