Hi it's very annoying ... the power stays on even while the computer is off at night.

Apart from consuming energy, it's a totally disturbing issue .. a steady blue beacon at night in the room.

Didn't HP think of a software switch when designing this piece of hardware? I cannot find anything in the kb ...

I cannot recommend this, and probably my next computer will not be HP.IMG_20211229_081631.jpg

That is actually pretty bad.  It will attract bugs but is unable to zap them like a real bug zapper..

PC's draw power even when turned off as explained here

I have a small piece of blue vinyl tape I used to block the light on one of my systems as I could not put up with it.  The LED is directly visible as the side of the case is glass.

There is the remote possibility that windows is not actually shutting down.  Usually a warning to that effect is shown on the screen but depending on the fault condition the display and keyboard may turn off first.  When this happens, there is no obvious way to tell if Windows actually turned off the PC.

Try the following:  Wait 10 minutes after clicking the shutdown button and then unplug the system.  Then plug back in, turn it on and bring up the event viewer.  Look in "system" for a message to the effect "the last shutdown was unexpected".  It would be dated within a minute or two after you powered it up.  if you see that type of message then windows did not shut down and you can try any of the following as suggested by Microsoft
