@sue706, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding "Boot Device Not Found" Error!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your computer displays a "Boot Device Not Found" error, it often means the system is trying to boot from a device that doesn't contain an operating system, or there is an issue with the hard disk connection. Here are some steps to help resolve this issue:

1. Restore BIOS Default Settings

  1. Turn off your computer and wait for about five seconds.
  2. Press the power button to start the computer, and repeatedly press the f10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. Once in the BIOS Setup screen, press f9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press f10 to save and exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select "Yes," then press Enter when prompted to "Exit Saving Changes."
  6. Restart your computer as per the on-screen prompts.

2. Update the BIOS

Ensure your BIOS is updated to the latest version, as outdated BIOS can sometimes cause boot issues:

  • For detailed instructions on updating the BIOS, refer to the HP support documents specific for your PC model.

3. Perform a Hard Drive Test

If your computer can enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, follow these steps:

  1. Hold the power button down for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer, then immediately press esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu is displayed. Press f2 to open the System Diagnostics.
  3. In the diagnostics menu, go to "Component Tests" and select "Hard Drive."
  4. Run the Quick Test, if it passes and issues persist, run the Extensive Test. Follow any on-screen instructions based on the test results.

4. Reinstall Windows

If the error persists, you may need to reinstall Windows:

  • Utilize the HP Cloud Recovery tool or Windows Recovery Environment to conduct a system reset or reinstall the operating system. This may involve booting from a USB recovery drive.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
