Here is a support page for the motherboard of that PC
- AMD Athlon X2 (Bt)
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 up to 6000+ (W)
- AMD Phenom Triple-Core up to 8xxx (AM2+) (Toliman)
- AMD Phenom Quad-Core 9xxx series (AM2+) up to 9850 (Agena)
It is unclear which CPU that model came with. Please indicate the present CPU. I did find a listing outside of HP that states the CPU to be AMD Phenom X4 9150e @ 1.80 GHz. If that is the case, then you are close to the top. Then you can go up to 9850 (Agena). There happen to be three of those CPU's listed on the CPU-Upgrade site, with this one as being the best probable chance (81%)
http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/AMD/Phenom_X4/9850_(95W).html
I checked on used prices on EBay. Fairly inexpensive to try
I'm not an HP employee.
