Installed Win 11 yesterday and it won't recognize my camera. the compatibility check on this website gave a green flag saying everything on my cumputer was compatible but I am having the camera problem. The driver is Realtek DMFT IR. I read that Win 11 isn't compatible with Realtek IR cameras. What are my options?

Welcome to our HP Community forum!
Yes, Windows 11 has been known to have compatibility issues with some Realtek IR camera drivers. If your Realtek DMFT IR camera isn't working, here are some steps and options to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
1. Update Your Camera Driver
Via Windows Update:
- Go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
- If a compatible camera driver update is available, install it.
Manually from Realtek or Your Laptop Manufacturer:
- Visit your laptop manufacturer's support website (e.g., HP Support for Pavilion Gaming 15-dk0000 series).
- Search for Windows 11 drivers for your specific model.
- Download and install the latest camera driver.
From Device Manager:
- Open Device Manager (press Win + X and select it).
- Find your camera under Imaging Devices or Cameras.
- Right-click it and select Update driver → Search automatically for updated driver software.
2. Roll Back the Driver
If you recently updated the driver, the new version might be causing the problem. To roll back:
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click the camera → Properties → Driver tab.
- Click Roll Back Driver.
3. Use Compatibility Mode
If there’s no Windows 11 driver available, try using a Windows 10 driver:
- Download the Windows 10 driver from your manufacturer’s website.
- Right-click the installer → Properties → Compatibility tab.
- Check Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows 10.
- Install the driver.
4. Reinstall the Driver
Sometimes, a clean reinstall fixes issues:
- In Device Manager, right-click the camera and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your computer.
- Windows should automatically reinstall the default driver.
5. Check Camera Privacy Settings
- Go to Settings → Privacy & security → Camera.
- Ensure Camera access is enabled and the apps needing the camera have permissions.
6. Use a Generic USB Camera
If your built-in camera remains incompatible, consider purchasing an external USB webcam. Most USB webcams are plug-and-play on Windows 11.
7a. Contact HP Support
If the above steps don’t work, visit the HP Support Contact Options page to access various support resources, including chat, phone, and email support. They might provide a workaround or confirm if your camera is officially unsupported on Windows 11.
7b. Use HP Support Assistant
- Open the HP Support Assistant app on your PC (pre-installed on most HP devices).
- Log in with your HP account or create one.
- Use the Contact HP Support option in the app to connect with HP via chat or phone.
Let me know if you need detailed guidance for any of these steps!
Kind Regards,

I had tried some of those suggestions. HP does not have any WIN11 drivers in their list of the drivers available for this system. I downloaded an IR camera driver from Realtek dated 9/2024 but it didn't help. This system is six years old and it struggles to keep up with the apps I run. I upgraded to WIN11 in hopes that it would help performance but that didn't happen. I think it is time to move on to a new system. Thanks for your suggestions.
