can I? I see a lot of conflicting info online and the spec upgrades on the hp site only list up top the i7-7700. Can i upgrade to the i7-7700K with no other changes or will I need a cpu cooler upgrade, etc.

This benchmarking site shows configurations in the 870-2xx model series that have i7-7700K's installed.

 

UserBenchmark: HP OMEN by HP Desktop PC 870-2XX Compatible Components

 

The parts list shows that the heat sink is rated for up to a 95W processor and the i7-7700K has up to a 91W power draw.

 

HP PartSurfer

Heatsink - 95W, Kidd

 

So, you should be able to upgrade to that processor without any additional modifications.
