@edward109, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Slim Desktop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP Slim Desktop is not recognizing the full 32GB of RAM after upgrading. Since you've already tried the basics, here are some additional troubleshooting steps:

1. Check System Information & Task Manager

  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) > Performance > Memory and see if it shows both modules detected but with limited usable memory.
  • Open System Information (Win + R > type msinfo32 > Enter) and check if it reports 32GB installed.

2. Verify BIOS Settings

  • HP desktops may not have XMP settings, as they often use locked-down BIOS versions. However, check for memory remapping or any memory-related settings.
  • Try resetting the BIOS to default settings (even if CMOS reset didn't help).

3. Test Each Module Separately

  • Install only one 16GB module at a time and check if the system detects it properly.
  • Swap the slots to see if a particular slot is faulty.

4. Check for BIOS Updates

  • Go to HP’s support website and check if there’s a BIOS update available for your desktop.
  • If an update is available, install it carefully, as BIOS updates can resolve memory recognition issues.

5. Check RAM Compatibility

  • Some HP systems have limitations on RAM speed and compatibility.
  • If your new RAM modules are running at a higher speed than supported, they may not function correctly.
  • Try checking the HP manual or website for the maximum supported RAM specifications.

6. Try Different RAM Modules

  • If possible, test with a different pair of RAM modules to see if the issue persists.
  • Some OEM systems are picky about third-party RAM.

If none of these steps work, your HP system may have a hardware or firmware limitation preventing full recognition of third-party RAM. Let me know if you need detailed steps for any of these!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
