HPE-380T
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I need to replace the cpu fan that attaches to the heat sink on my HPE-380T desktop.  Every so often I'll get a message on bootup that the cpu fan has failed and and the computer is shutting down.  Took the cover off and noticed that the fan will start on bootup but then stop in about 10 seconds.  The case fan continues to run with no problem.  Both appear to be the same fans.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Hi:

Below is the link to the parts list for your PC...

The CPU fan is not sold separately, but is sold along with the heat sink.

612826-ZH1    Heatsink - Spec Intel G-1366

I suggest that you do a search by the HP part number on eBay, or on the internet in general.

Hopefully, you can just unscrew the bad fan from your current heatsink and replace it with the new one.

1) Unplug the power cord from the chassis.

2) Here is how to measure the fan , typical case fan is 80mm or 92mm.

3) Look at the fan power leads to the motherboard, a 4 wire fan is called a PWM fan.   Correct?

After you answer this, I shall continue with links for a suitable fan.

Let's say you now have the fan, OK?

3) Put a dab of paint (finger nail is OK) on one of the corners.  We will get back to why. later.

4) Looking down into the 4 corner holes of the fan you will see the mounting screws. It takes a thin phillips to get into it. These screws are into the aluminum heatsink.  You unscrew them.

5) Unplug the fan power cable from the motherboard.

6) Starting looking on the sides of the fan casing. There is an arrow pointing to the direction of the flow. You want your new fan to be mounted to it also follows the same flow direction.  When you have the same, put a dab of paint on upper corner of the fan. So, now you have determined which side is UP.

7) Mount the new fan, and plug in the power plug.

Something to note....

the fan is attached to the heat sink with 4 screws.  The bottom 2 fan screws can not be removed without removing 2 screws that attach the heat sink to the motherboard.  The heat sink screws are in front of the access holes to the 2 bottom screws for the fan.  I'll need to remove the heat sink to replace the fan.  Any issues with removing the heat sink and re-installing?  Pressure on cpu?  tightness of 4 mounting screws?  anything else?

Thanks, in advance, for your assistance.

If you remove the heatsink, you will need to scrape off the paste from the heatsink surface and the CPU chip.
