I recently an HP dvdrom dh40n at goodwill for my desktop computer, running windows 10 (64-bit), since I dont have a SATA data cable i figured I'de use a SATA to USB cable. The drive powers up and spins but on the computer nothing happens I tried looking up drivers buy HP seems to have removed any mention of this product from thier website. Do I have a broken dvd drive because windows wont reconise it or is this because I dont have drivers for it.
In device manager the drive pops up as a generic usb device but that may be because of the cable I also tried putting a disc in and no difference. Please and thank you for your help.
Edit: I unplugged one of my drives to test it and it seems to work

Thanks for the post @jamesl2,
I understand that you have connected the internal DVD drive to your computer using a USB to SATA connector and is not getting recognized.
Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.
Have you connected it to your computer internally using SATA cable?
Recommend you connect the DVD drive to your computer internally and check if it works.
I do not think the computer is going to recognize it if you connect it using a USB to SATA cable.
Keep me posted.
