Hi @RJZimm-46,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

If your GP70N external DVD drive is no longer recognized by your HP All-in-One Desktop PC (PC27-cb100i), here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check USB Connection

  • Ensure the external DVD drive is properly connected to a working USB port on the computer.
  • Try using a different USB port or a different USB cable to rule out cable or port issues.

2. Power Supply

  • If the external DVD drive has a separate power supply, make sure it is properly plugged in and receiving power.

3. Check Device Manager

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives and check if the external DVD drive is listed.
    • If it's listed but has a yellow exclamation mark, right-click and select Uninstall Device, then reboot your PC. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.
    • If it's not listed, proceed to the next step.

4. Update or Reinstall USB Drivers

  • In Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  • Look for any issues (yellow exclamation marks) related to USB controllers.
    • Right-click on the USB Root Hub or any listed device with issues and select Update Driver or Uninstall Device (reboot afterward to reinstall the USB drivers).
  • Alternatively, you can visit the HP Support website, search for your All-in-One desktop model (PC27-cb100i), and download the latest chipset and USB drivers.

5. Run Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other Troubleshooters.
  • Scroll down to Hardware and Devices and run the troubleshooter to detect and fix any issues related to connected devices.

6. Check for Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for any pending updates.
  • Sometimes, a Windows update can fix hardware detection issues or install necessary drivers.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @RJZimm-46

Please find the remaining steps below.

7. Registry Fix for DVD/CD-ROM Detection

If the DVD drive is not recognized, but used to work, there might be a registry issue. Follow these steps to fix it:

8. Test the DVD Drive on Another PC

  • Plug the DVD drive into a different computer to check if the issue is with the drive or the original PC. If it works on another PC, the issue is with the drivers or USB ports on the All-in-One.

9. Reinstall DVD Drive Driver

  • If all else fails, try reinstalling the DVD drive's specific drivers:
    • Visit the manufacturer's website (LG, HP, etc.) for your GP70N DVD drive and download any specific drivers or firmware updates.

10. Check BIOS Settings

  • Restart your PC and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing Esc, F2, or Del during boot).
  • Look for any settings related to USB devices or external drives. Ensure they are enabled.

11. System Restore (Optional)

  • If the drive worked before but no longer does, you can try restoring your system to an earlier point:
    • Press Windows + R, type rstrui, and press Enter. Choose a restore point from before the issue occurred.

Let me know if any of these steps help. If not I recommend you contact HP phone support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
