Hi @qimmy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like there might be a few issues causing Dota 2 to lag on your HP Pavilion Gaming 15-Dk10000 laptop after upgrading to Windows 11. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
Update GPU Drivers
Since you've already installed NVIDIA Experience and updated drivers, it's good to double-check that you have the latest drivers specifically for Windows 11. Sometimes, updates can lag behind initial releases, so visiting NVIDIA's official website to download the latest drivers for your GTX 1650 GPU could help.
Check Power Settings
Windows 11 might have different power management settings that could be affecting performance. Make sure your laptop is set to high performance mode when gaming. Here’s how you can check:
- Right-click on the battery icon in the system tray.
- Select "Power Options."
- Choose "High performance" under the power plan settings.
Adjust NVIDIA Control Panel Settings
You can optimize your GPU settings through the NVIDIA Control Panel:
- Right-click on your desktop and select "NVIDIA Control Panel."
- Go to "Manage 3D settings" and then "Program Settings."
- Select Dota 2 from the dropdown list or add it manually.
- Set "Preferred graphics processor" to "High-performance NVIDIA processor."
- Apply changes and see if it improves performance.
Check Background Processes
Make sure there aren't unnecessary background processes consuming CPU or GPU resources while gaming. Close any applications that you're not using to free up system resources.

Verify Game Settings
Ensure that Dota 2 is using the dedicated GPU (GTX 1650) and not defaulting to integrated graphics:
- Open Dota 2 and go to the settings menu.
- Look for graphics options and ensure that the game is using the NVIDIA GPU.
Windows 11 Compatibility Issues
Windows 11 is relatively new, and compatibility issues with specific games and hardware configurations can arise. Check if there are any updates or patches for Dota 2 that address compatibility with Windows 11.
Reinstall Dota 2
If the issue persists, try reinstalling Dota 2. Sometimes, files can become corrupted during updates, leading to performance issues.
Monitor Temperature and Performance
Use software like MSI Afterburner or HWMonitor to monitor temperatures and performance metrics while gaming. Overheating can cause throttling and degrade performance.
Check for Windows Updates
Ensure that your Windows 11 installation is fully up to date. Microsoft regularly releases updates that include performance improvements and bug fixes.
Consider Rolling Back to Windows 10 (if feasible)
If all else fails and you suspect that Windows 11 might be the culprit, consider rolling back to Windows 10 (if your laptop originally came with it and you have a backup or installation media). This would help determine if the issue is specific to Windows 11 compatibility.
By going through these steps, you should be able to identify and hopefully resolve the performance issues you're experiencing with Dota 2 on your HP Pavilion Gaming laptop running Windows 11.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
