Is it worth replacing motherboard MSI MS-7778 @ shop quote $250 or having them get my info off the hard drive for $150?  or is a motherboard something pretty easy to replace that maybe a novice could do?

Hi,

This PC is about six years old.

I would not buy the same machine for less money.

Regards

@Lashenvy,

What is wrong with your system?

If all you need are the data files (documents, pictures, videos)

then you can use this to file copy the contents of the folders to a new computer hard srive.

Hi,

Have to agree with Wb2001.

The MB replacement cost of $250.00 and data recovery cost of $150.00 is very high.

Your PC is almost six years old.

I do not think so.  You can provably find the same machine used for less money.

If you want to get a different machine, provided your hard drive isn't encrypted, you could get an adapter like the one suggested on the thread or an external usb enclosure.  pluging it in a new machine would allow you to read the drive and copy the information from it.

Hope you can save or have saved your data.

@Lashenvy,

Getting the data off the drive is a simple task if you use an external SATA enclosure / dock with USB3.0 support. The drive can be "read", and copied to another hard drive for safe keeping.
