Will my petragon Formosa motherboard support a GeForce 1050ti or 1060 gpu

The motherboard will support both of those types of cards, but do keep in mind that choosing a video card requires more than that. You will find that there are many versions of 1050 and 1060 cards.

  • POWER: Some will require a power a 6-pin connection from your power supply. If that is needed, you will want to check that there is a connection available. It looks like that PC comes with a 600 watt power supply and that should be plenty powerful for any 1050 or 1060 that you choose.
  • SIZE: Make sure to choose a card that will fit in the case.  Full-size cards can be pretty darn long, but most manufacturers also make shorter versions for cases that have less room. Also, higher end cards these days take up two slots, so make that space is available or be prepared to move things around. Allowing a little extra space on the side of the card for good van ventilation is not a bad idea either.
  • PORTS: Check for the connections on the back. Do you need HDMI, Display Port, older DVI or VGA?

I bought a GTX 1060 recently to replace my GTX 545. I have a Formosa motherboard in my h9-1120t Phoenix PC. I cannot get the new GTX 1060 to work properly. Updated BIOS from 7.09 to 8.21, tried downloading new GPU driver and reinstalling the Geforce Experience program. Now the moniter doesn't even get input (it goes to sleep) when the GTX 1060 is installed. I put the GTX 545 back in it the PC works fine. i7-3770 CPU, 12 GB RAM, 600 PSU. Any suggestions?

Just an observation first: Your original post indicates you have a H9 Phoneix 1320t, but your last post says it is a H9 Pheonix 1120t. Interestingly, the HP website says the motherboard is the same for both models, but also says that the h9-1120t x16 slot supports all PCIe 3.0 while the h9-1320t says it only supports PCIe 3.0 with an i5 and i7 Ivy Bridge processor. There may be some incorrect info on their website then.

 

Your i7-3770 is an Ivy Bridge anyway, so a PCIe 3.0 card should be fine, assuming what they have there is correct.

Assuming you don't have a DOA card, my educated guess is that the slot is only allowing PCIe 2.0 cards for some reason.

 

Based on both models specs, it looks like the card should be working...so...

I assume you have the card in the first PCIe slot (ie the x16, ie the long one), correct?   :Wink:

Recheck the Bios for any video related parameters that may need to be adjusted.

Please reconfirm the Model Number AND Prodcut Number so we know what PC you do have.

It may help to have the part number for the video card and power supply as well.

I must have mis-typed, I have an h9-1120t (with: i7-3770 ivy bridge, Formosa (2AD5) motherboard, and 600w PSU), and now a refurbished MSI GTX 1060.

 

I was able to get it working last night, after a couple dozen hours of reading and no real answers. 

 

I went in BIOS settings and DISABLED LEGACY SUPPORT. The PC works fine now and runs all my games on ultra settings. Although, to be fair, I am now primarily a console gamer due to my PC kind of sucking for gaming; but now maybe I will play more PC games. 

I did try changing the Secure Boot setting in the BIOS settings first, but this caused my PC to not start and beep. To fix this I simply removed the watch-like battery from the motherboard for about 2 minutes; this caused the BIOS to reset back to defualt BIOS setting and the PC started right back up. The DISABLE LEGACY setting was right above the Secure Boot setting, and I figured I would try it, and it worked. Once it started I opened my Geforce Experience program and it auto-downloaded the latest GTX 1060 driver, restarted computer, changed all my game stting to ultra-high, and played. 

 

Im mad at myself for not being able to do this sooner. It is like having a brand new gaming PC, in spite of HP's complete lack of help and wrong information about a PC they built. I pay $30/month for the HP Smartfriend Family plan for my 5 HP PC's tech support (they help keep my GF and I's Spectre x360's in greaet condition), and talked with multiple tech support agents about this issue. As soon as I mentioned BIOS they said they do nothing with BIOS and transfered me to HP hardware support, where they wont help you without an extended warranty or other payment; they wanted $60 from me that would have opened a 2-week case about this particular "hardware" issuse, and there was no guarantee they would even be able to help. And many of the HP support forum threads on here give ambiguous answers. I know, I digressed...

 

Please share how I solved this issue as I know there are people that could use this info.

**SOLVED** Please let others know.

 

I was able to get my refurbished MSI GTX 1060 GPU to work on my Pegatron 2AD5 (HP's "Formosa") motherboard by DISABLING LEGACY SUPPORT in BIOS settings. It now works amazingly and I can run all my games on ultra setting (I am a console gamer so I don't have the latest titles on PC*). Basically a brand new PC for $200 as far as I'm concerned.

 

I did try disabling the BIOS's Secure Boot, but that messed my **bleep** up, PC wouldn't start. To fix I removed the small watch-like battery out of the motherboard for a couple minutes, this reset the BIOS boot to default settings. Then I disabled the Legacy setting and the PC worked good, a slightly slower startup (like 45 seconds longer), but it ran my games just fine. I am a happy camper. An SSD upgrade is probably next.

 

Please spread the word, as I had a hard time getting answers on this topic because it is an outdated topic. Even HP support threads said it wouldn't work, as well as current HP Smartfrined tech support agents that I pay for also said no.

Hey Sparky,

 

I find it a little insulting that you say that you had difficulty "finding answers" in the same thread that shows I replied to posters on the same day every single time.

 

And then I realize that you piggybacked on another persons older thread. While I am glad that you were able to fix your problem, you really should work on your forum etiquette. Most of the people who take part in this forum are volunteers who do not work for HP.

I was actually suprised upon reading your last response. I was certainly not trying to be rude to you or anyone, and I am very greatful for the immediate feed back.

 

Most of the content I found throughout my 2 weeks of troubleshooting that addressed my motherboard and GPU compatibility were outdated and archived, or didnt address my issue/hareware directly. I also spoke with 3 different Nvidia support agents (each said it shuold work), 1 HP hardware agent (who wanted me to buy the warranty on my old PC before helping me), and 3 HP Smartfriend tech support agent (from my paid subsciption, each said it wouldnt work); plus read through dozens, if not hundreds of other sites and forums. I created my account here yesterday and tried posting my question.

 

And in my defense, I did try creating my own thread on the topic, 3 times yestersay in fact, but it wouldn't post. I even saved the text for that post in a notepad. And it happened again this morning. 

 

When I did solve the issue I thought it was important to post my solution.
