@birdrop

This is not good!  What is the full model and who is the manufacturer of the GT 420.  I want to look at the specs to see what they say.

Gigabyte GT420 2GB 128 BIT DDR3  ( NVIDIA GeForce GT420 )

GV-N420-2GI Rev3

Did you notice the DVI-D to DVI-I could that be the problem ?

Thank you for the additional information, @birdrop!

If this is the video card that you have it states that it requires 350W: https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-geforce-gt-420-gv-n420-2gi/p/N82E16814125850R

This definitely could be the problem.  However, I don't believe that the connectors that you used should be a problem.  They are both digital so there should be no conflict.

Not to argue, but if you go to Tech Power Up website, it says 250W.

I was thinking of buying an HDMI cable first.

The only other port is VGA which I won't use.

Wouldn't the card just work poorly if it only needs 50 more watts ?

It shouldn't get a no signal message, and not work at all.

Gigabyte website says 350w recommended.

This site recommended these cards for 300w  my power supply unit.

So now it is time to buy my third GPU $$$$$$$$$$$$

Also an HDMI cable, my old fingers are getting worn from twisting the DVI fasteners.

HP Recommended

@birdrop, I wouldn't know about old fingers.  I am only 75!! 😉

HDMI or DisplayPort are the only way to go these days.

Good luck!
