I cannot answer that. From what I read about the setup, the present video card and the CPU graphics share a video solution. If you change the setup by introducing the GTX-1050, it might disrupt that scheme, however if the place you purchase the video card has a good return policy, give it a try.

That model number - 550-203n - does not show up on the HP supprt pages. There are two models close to that number 550-203na and 550-203ng - both have only a 180w supply. If that is what your PC has, then not probable to do much beyond what is alreay installed. Can you provide present video card info?

OK. That model only has 180w power supply. It also looks like that video card is a special incorporation for the that application. I would not expect a favorable solution.

- what would you recomend an owner of a pavillion 550-203-na do if they want to upgrade their GPU then?

It was already pointed out the power supply needs to be changed - previously in this thread. So that needs to be considered. also, the present graphics card is an AMD Radeon R5 330 and assuming it is occupying the PCIx16 slot.
It is not always a sure thing, but I did find a thread concerning the same motherboard as what the 550-203-na has - Pegatron Odense motherboard

Reading thru the thread indicates they had the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti and the gtx 970 both working, with a replaced power supply.
Since I do not know for sure about the GTX-1050, I would repeat the advise earlier in this thread. - If you are buying something and it is not positively sure it will work, try buying from a vendor that allows returns for items that are not compatible.
