Greetings @Melrose2

Welcome back to the Forum.

The Hana MB supports a 5900X using the factory BIOS.

BIOS Update:

I don't think you need a BIOS update but one exists Here. Doing the BIOS update is your decision. Be patient when doing a BIOS update, don't interrupt this update and loss of power during a BIOS update can corrupt the BIOS.

CPU Problems:

Is the CPU new? Any bent CPU pins? It is possible to repair bent CPU pins. I bent CPU pins doing my first AMD CPU install.

Broken CPU pins would be a deal breaker. Have a local PC Tech take a look.

Maybe the CPU is not seated in the socket correctly.

Try resetting CMOS:

Remove the MB CR2032 battery when the PC has no AC power. Also depress and hold down the power button a few times after disconnecting power and before removing the CR2032 MB battery.

Let the PC sit for a few minutes.

Reinstall the MB battery.

Check for a good POST using the 5900X again.

Reinstall the factory CPU. Check for a good POST again.

My pleasure.

You'll have to reinstall the factory CPU to do the BIOS update.

That is strange if you updated the BIOS, after reinstalling the HP factory CPU, on the HP MB (the AMD socket is okay), reset CMOS on the HP MB, and fired up the 5900X successfully in a second non HP MB.

The working 5900X should work with your HP MB.

HP Support for your PC clearly states 5900X support using the factory BIOS.

What's the wattage on the installed power supply and what graphics card do you have? Maybe you need more power.

It should not be a power supply problem. The only way to verify is to try a different power supply.

A memory problem? Anything is possible. But usually a memory problem would cause issues with any CPU.

Check your PC's hardware using HP Diagnostics as follows:

Start the PC. Repeatedly tap the "ESC" key.

Select "F2". Run system and component tests to confirm: a drive problem, a memory problem, or other component problem. Run extensive tests.

It could also be a MB VRM problem.

I don't know why the 5900X does not work with your system.

There is a fan issue at startup but didnt think that would have anything to do with the 5900x posting maybe i should have mentioned this trying to resolve the fan issue now see if thats the problem...then ill pop the 5900x back in

many thanks

I never thought about the fan/heatsink HP installed at the factory if your PC shipped with a 65 watt CPU.

You're going to need a better CPU cooler.

This gets tricky on HP AMD MBs. HP uses an Intel backplate layout.

So you need to use the Intel: backplate and retention brackets when installing the new CPU cooler.

Also, a 5900X needs a CPU cooler matched to the CPUs thermal load. And you have case dimension constraints to deal with.

Check the following videos on installing a new CPU cooler in a 25L/30L AMD PC:

Air cooler

AIO liquid cooler
