Hi @Alyrowroni,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Installing physical RAM (like a 4GB module) in your HP PC cannot be done using Command Prompt or any software tool; it requires manual hardware installation.
However, I can guide you through the correct steps to safely install the RAM and then verify it using Command Prompt afterwards.
Part 1: Physically Install the 4GB RAM Module
- Turn off your PC and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the side panel (for desktops) or bottom cover (for laptops) using a screwdriver.
- Locate the RAM slots on the motherboard.
- If a slot is free, gently insert the 4GB RAM module at a 45-degree angle, then press down until it clicks into place.
- Reassemble your PC and power it on.
⚠️ Make sure the RAM is compatible with your motherboard (DDR3, DDR4, etc.).
Part 2: Verify RAM Installation Using Command Prompt
Once the PC is powered on:
- Press Windows + R, type cmd, and press Enter.
- In Command Prompt, type: systeminfo | findstr /C:"Total Physical Memory"
or
wmic memorychip get capacity
This will show the total installed RAM and confirm if the new 4GB module is recognized.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
