Hi @indianajoan1955,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To disable HP's auto repair feature and manage automatic updates in Windows 11, you can adjust settings to reduce interruptions from both HP and Windows. Here’s how to go about it.
Disable HP Auto Repair
- Uninstall HP Support Assistant (if installed):
- Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Find HP Support Assistant, select it, and click Uninstall.
- Restart your laptop to ensure it’s fully removed.
- Disable HP Startup Services:
- Press Win + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
- In System Configuration, go to the Services tab.
- Uncheck any services related to HP, such as HP JumpStart Bridge, HP Support Solutions Framework, or any HP-related services that could initiate auto repairs.
- Click Apply and OK, then restart your laptop.
Disable Windows 11 Automatic Updates
- Pause Updates Temporarily:
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Click Pause updates for 7 days (you can extend this pause if needed).
- Disable Automatic Updates Using Services:
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
- Find Windows Update in the list, right-click it, and select Properties.
- Set the Startup type to Disabled.
- Click Apply and OK, then restart your laptop.
- Metered Connection:
- Go to Settings > Network & internet.
- Click on Properties for your current Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection.
- Enable Metered connection to limit updates automatically.
Optimize Startup Apps to Improve Performance
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Go to the Startup tab and disable unnecessary programs that may be slowing down your system.
These steps will help reduce system interruptions and allow you more control over updates and repair prompts.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
