Got a new HP 960 ergonomic keyboard and found out I am unable to print ASCII characters using the ALT+ASCII code combination, is there something that needs to be done on this keyboard in order to be able to type those characters?

Hi @HB21210

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

To enable typing ASCII characters using the ALT + ASCII code combination on your HP 960 ergonomic keyboard, you may need to adjust certain settings or modes. Here are some steps that can help:

Ensure Num Lock is On: To use the ALT codes, make sure the Num Lock is enabled on your keyboard.

Emulate ALT+Keypad: If your keyboard has the option to emulate the ALT keypad, you can enable it. This function sends the code for the ALT key sequence through the numeric keypad even if it doesn't physically exist on your keyboard.

To enable the Emulate ALT+Keypad mode:

  • Enter the programming mode of your keyboard.
  • Select the appropriate code for Emulate ALT+Keypad ON.

Enter the ALT Code: Hold down the ALT key and using the numeric keypad, type the ASCII code of the character you wish to produce. For example, holding ALT and typing 0169 will produce the © symbol.

Check Code Page: Different applications and keyboard settings may use different code pages. Ensure that the code page your application is using supports the desired ASCII characters.

You can find relevant settings and options for enabling specific features in your keyboard's user manual or programming guide.
