Just adding a fax modem card to PCIe slot but want to know how to remove slot cover. Does not have screws. Doeshave a rotating clip over it and snap clips on bottom surface. Looks like a break away slot cover but does not have screwdriver slots to snap it out.

Hi:
It is kind of difficult to see from the service manual.
Look at the pictures for how to add a video card, because that shows how to remove the expansion slot cover.

Looks like you rotate that locking mechanism and then lift the blank out of its position.

Paul,
Thanks for replying.
Yes, the locking mechanism does seem to rotate out, BUT
1. there are also two very fragile clips underneath, I assume they are to be unclipped and then reclipped for the new Fax Modem card that is placed?
2. The slot covers are part of the back of the machine, do you think they are simply "punched out"?
3. Lastly, how do I tell if they are "low profile" or full sized slots and covers?
Thanks again,
Bill

You're very welcome, Bill.
Unfortunately, I wouldn't know the answers to your questions.
I would say that since the PC is not a slim tower PC, that the expansion slot blanks are full size.
When I look at the picture, it sure does look like each blank is punched out, but if that is the case, how does the expansion card fit?
Any blank I have ever seen is individually removable.

lol, that is exactly why I asked.
The slot cover has an image of a screwdriver stamped onto it. When researching other HP computers, HP in a video states that you actually tear out the slot cover by sliding in a screw driver and essentially breaking the pieces of metal that attaches to the slot cover. I can do this but I certainly wanted to know that I am doing the right thing before I tear up my new computer, lol.
This is especially so, because in the video I referred to, it had slots in it to insert the screwdriver tip and this one does not. Also, in the video, there were no internal clips which this one has in addition to that rotating gizmo on the back.
I realized that I posted this question on the wrong forum ie software issues so I reposted it on the hardware section.
I do have another question if you don't mind and if you are knowledgeable.
I want to add a 4 port USB 3.1 card to the PCIe 16 expansion slot. There does not appear to be any spare power connectors on the motherboard. Is it safe to split one of the other power cords like to the HD etc. I believe a PCIe 16 supplies 75W of power but only has 12V and 3.3V but not the USB requisite 5 V. Without it, I believe the USB card will function for data transfer from peripherals that have their own power source but not from unpowered ones..
Thanks again and Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah!
Bill
