I use hp 240 Bluetooth mouse on my Lenovo think pad laptop. It’s been working fine but since I did a windows 11 update, it no longer seems to work.

what happens is that I turn the mouse on, it connects very quickly and it works for 30 seconds then all of sudden the mouse cursor doesn’t move on screen. Turn mouse off then on again, does exactly the same thing every time ie only work for 30 seconds.

the mouse itself is still on when it stops working, and it’s still showing as connected on Bluetooth devices on laptop.

i have changed battery’s, uninstalled/reinstalled the Bluetooth mouse on laptop and doesn’t work.

the it department at my work suggests it’s just not compatible with windows 11.
any thoughts before i buy a new mouse?

Hi @Taj91,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing with your HP 240 Bluetooth mouse not working properly on your Lenovo ThinkPad laptop after a Windows 11 update could be caused by a few different factors. Before deciding to purchase a new mouse, here are some troubleshooting steps and considerations you might want to explore:

1. Check for Windows Updates

Sometimes, issues like this can be resolved with subsequent Windows updates that fix bugs or compatibility problems introduced by earlier updates. Make sure your system is fully updated.

  1. Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  2. Click on Check for updates.
  3. Install any available updates and restart your computer.

2. Update Bluetooth and Mouse Drivers

Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause connectivity issues with Bluetooth devices.

Update Bluetooth Driver:

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Bluetooth section.
  3. Right-click on your Bluetooth adapter and select Update driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for drivers and follow the prompts.

Update Mouse Driver:

  1. In the Device Manager, expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
  2. Right-click on your mouse listed (it might appear as a generic device if it's not being recognized properly) and select Update driver.
  3. Choose Search automatically for drivers and follow the prompts.

3. Roll Back the Bluetooth Driver (If Applicable)

If the issue started after a driver update, rolling back to the previous driver version might resolve the issue.

  1. In the Device Manager, right-click on your Bluetooth adapter under the Bluetooth section.
  2. Select Properties > Driver tab.
  3. If the Roll Back Driver button is available (not greyed out), click it and follow the prompts.

4. Run the Bluetooth Troubleshooter

Windows has built-in troubleshooters that can sometimes resolve issues automatically.

  1. Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  2. Run the Bluetooth troubleshooter and follow any recommended actions.

5. Check Power Management Settings for Bluetooth

Ensure that Windows is not turning off the Bluetooth device to save power.

  1. In the Device Manager, right-click on your Bluetooth adapter and select Properties.
  2. Go to the Power Management tab.
  3. Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power if it's checked.
  4. Do the same for your mouse under Mice and other pointing devices.

6. Try a Clean Boot

Sometimes, third-party software can interfere with hardware connectivity. Performing a clean boot starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, which can help you determine if background software is causing the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
