hello I've been looking to add additional ram but the ram has unknown specs I'm confused about i recently bought some that didn't fit so my question is how many pins it has and what CL is it as I'm seeing CL40 and others but i don't want to spend as much and avoid it if possible.

Hi @blakedrake

Welcome to the HP Forum.

Please provide a specific Product Number to check MB specs.

You can ID existing HP provided RAM specs using  CPU-Z  (Zip version).

You probably have DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) memory modules. CL refers to CAS Latency, CPU-Z will provide relevant memory specs.

@NonSequitur777  is very good with memory upgrades on 25L/30L PCs.

The 25L and 30L MBs tend to be finicky with memory upgrades. You may not get rated speed with memory modules from certain manufacturers.

@blakedrake,

Like @Bill_To mentioned, providing a specific PC model would be very helpful indeed. Let's assume you got an HP OMEN 25L GT15-0xxx, fitted with a BlizzardL motherboard (SSID: 894A) -please confirm.

Again, as @Bill_To correctly observed, some HP computers are finnicky with RAM and achieving max RAM performance.

It so happens that the HP OMEN 25L GT15-0xxx desktops are very finnicky.  Meaning, unless you install HP-branded Kingston RAM, you're going to get disappointed.  Don't believe me?  Check out HP OMEN HP 25L GT15-0xxx Super Users here: UserBenchmark: HP OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop GT15-0xxx Compatible Components, and you'll see for yourself.

The best RAM you can install in your HP OMEN 25L GT15-0xxx (assuming that's what you got) are:

Kingston HP37D4U1S8ME-8XR 2x8GB
Kingston HP37D4U1S8HC-16XR 2x16GB
[ also: Kingston HP37D4U1S8HC-16XR 2x16GB clocked at 3467 MHz ] !
Kingston HP37D4U1S8HC-16XR 4x16GB
[ also: Kingston KF3600C18D4/16GX 2x16GB clocked at 3467 MHz ] !

Not sure how the 3467 MHz RAM Users were able to get their RAM clocked at this speed, but it appears to be possible somehow. Almost 99% of all HP OMEN 25L GT15-0xxx Users got their RAM clocked at 3200 MHz:

I can tell you for sure to avoid Corsair Vengeance and Kingston Patriot RAM, since they tend to get stuck at their lower default ("SPD") 2133 MHz RAM speed.

Kind Regards,
