So I was reading about other Omens running high temps. I purchased a refurbished one from WOOT and playing games the system seems to be running high. Running programs like SpeedFan v 4.52 (which doesn't seem to support the HP Omen line and the author seems to have retired), CPUID HWMonitor, and as a test CineBench R20.060 the heat does seem to get in excess of 70C and the fan speeds go from 640 RPM to over 1200 RPM. Is this normal for a 2 year old system or is there a problem?

70C is not a problem as the Kaby Lake CPU is not extremely efficient at dissipating heat. The point to worry is as you approach 100C which is around the thermal threshold. But even at 85C the CPU is working properly (that is the hot range) but users have reported temps approaching 90C at times. And this forum thread may help with additional information.

Wunderbar -- thank you -- only wish that these  tools told you that. I was glancing at the specs of the HP Omen 880-181 (https://support.hp.com/hk-en/document/c06044103) and that doesn't say anything about thermal specs that I saw. Granted that "your mileage my vary" but it is good to know that with all this PC power when do you need to worry about over heating the units. No approved friendly tool seems to list or warn about that. If there is then I missed that one too.

Glad I could help out!
